Gretel Waugh is a molecular microbiologist specializing in marine microbial ecology and metagenomics. She has developed novel frameworks for incorporating microbial functions into water quality risk assessments, explored bacterial evolution at the genomic scale, and conducted fieldwork across the Great Barrier Reef, Coral Sea, and Coral Triangle.
